Traffic Information : During the year, we receive complaints about portable basketball backboards and skateboard ramps being used or left on the public street. Section 15-21 of the City Ordinance prohibits obstructing any public street or sidewalk. These items must be removed from the public street and utilized on private driveways or in rear yards only. NORTH GIBRALTAR ROAD SPEED LIMIT: The speed limit on North Gibraltar Road was recently reduced to 30 MPH from the previous limit of 40 MPH. With the addition of the walking/bike paths along North Gibraltar Road, there will be more bikers and walkers in this area. The recommended site distances for the road suggested that the speed limit should be reduced to 30 MPH to make the road and nearby walking/bike paths safer. Fermi Siren Test : The Public Safety Department wishes to keep you aware of activities involving our City and the Fermi Nuclear Power Plant located in Monroe County . Our City is located within a 10-mile radius, to the north of the plant. Thus, Gibraltar falls within the Emergency Planning Zone (EPZ). Wayne County Emergency Management Division is the agency in charge of all emergency planning for the communities in Wayne County that fall within the EPZ, (Gibraltar , Flat Rock, Rockwood, and center/south portions of Brownstown). On the last Wednesday of each month, between 9:45 a.m. and 10:15 a.m. the Fermi siren is tested. We also test our Emergency Siren located north of the Police Station at the same time. If there were an actual emergency at the Fermi Plant, you would need to tune your radio to either WJR (AM 760) or WWJ (AM 950), for information and/or instructions. Our City also uses the Emergency Siren for other emergencies as they occur. Animal Reminders: The 2010 Animal Licenses are available for purchase at $8.00 per license. Internet Safety - For Parents: The Danger... The Internet is a constantly growing educational resource for children and can be a positive experience. Millions of children surf the Internet for school and entertainment every day. Children also communicate through E-Mails, chat rooms, and public message boards. Unsupervised, the Internet can be dangerous, exposing our children to predators and inappropriate material. To Report a Cyber Creep Call 1-877-5CYBER3 According to a survey conducted by the U.S. Department of Justice, one in five children receive unwanted sexual solicitations online and seventy percent of these unwanted solicitations happen on a home computer. The survey also found that most families who have youth who use the Internet regularly do not use filtering or blocking software. Curfew Reminder: The City of Gibraltar has a curfew ordinance (Section #15-5). Children 15 years of age and younger must be home by 10:00 p.m. If 16 years of age, kids must be home by midnight .
